I have just received the below Press Release about work on Wolsingham Bridge which is extremely worrying and disappointing.
We had previously understood the work would not result in a total 24 hour a day, 7 day a week closure for the entire period of refurbishment, but apparently the work cannot be carried out in any other way than by closing the bridge completely to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for 20 weeks from 22 July 2024.
We have written to DCC requesting they look at provision of a temporary footbridge so that people from this side of the river can park at eg Wolsingham Station and at least walk into Wolsingham for the school, GP surgery and shopping etc. We have not had a response to this as yet.
I am really, really sorry to have to send this out but wanted you to know as quickly as possible so you can start planning for what is going to be an 18 mile diversion for some people.
